Today during ISR, I got to harvest a large beet and it came off perfectly. For most of the ones I have done previously I have had to cut part of the beet off, but for this one it cut perfectly between the roots and the beet itself.

Today I added 6 new plants to the aquaponics system. I added a new set of turnips and beets and also some cabbage and Cimarron Red lettuce. I think I am most excited to see the cabbage grow as it is a bit different from the rest of the plants in shape. In a while, I will update this with a picture of the cabbage. Also, I worked on an APES practice FRQ. Working for that 5!

Today I worked on taking a few failed plants in the hydroponics system, so that I can replace them with new plants. I have not added in the new ones I recently plants, but I will soon once I think they have sprouted enough. Additionally, today in preparation for my APES exam coming up I practiced an FRQ which I got a 9/10 on. Super Stoked for that score.

Today I checked on my plants that I planted last class and found that had begun to sprout. Usually, I would give these a few more days, but I wanted to experiment and see what would happen to a plant that was exposed to the aquaponics system so early. I also noticed that the aquaponics system's fertilizer level was very low, so I added more to raise it to the regular level.

Today I did a couple different things, I planted some new plants, talked movies with Dr. Bill, talked lacrosse logistics with Ashton and learned about some of Noah's project. With Noah, he showed me how he used a new tool he got to engrave onto metal services. For my plants, I noticed that I had a few open spots in the aquaponics system, whether from harvesting of the plants simply failing, so I planted some new ones to start up soon.

Today I harvested some more greens from the aquaponics setup. I took out the whole plant and then harvested the stems. There were still a few parts that were sprouting, so I replanted it and am experimenting to see if it will regrow. I tasted it and it tasted pretty good. Now I have a large batch of lettuce to take home with me. Additionally, I had planted some turnips which are growoing pretty well and I am excited to harvest when they are ready.

Today I helped Dan and Ashton in the audio room to test out a new microphone they got. We tested sounds from different distances from the microphone and with different volumes. It sounds very clear.

Today, I finally harvested some lettuce. This piece is the first to be at a good enough size to harvest, however many of the other plants including swiss chard, collard greens, and arugula are on the way. I am gonna take it home to my Mom so she can make a salad out of it. I attached a picture below:

Today I met with Mr. McKenna to discuss a bid we got for the Student Union. This bid will include energy storage at the student union, updated inverters, upadated electical, and will also give us the ability to add some donated solar in the future. This is important because it will make the Student Union into a community resilience center, with the energy storage, the building can run on renewable energies at night and be used by the community in the event of an emergency.

Today I talked to my dad about my spring break plans in regards to Carbon Free Hawaii. Over the break I will be visiting many colleges and one I will get to visit is Georgetown in Washington D.C. While in D.C. I plan to meet with Hawai'i Senator Schatz and Joe Mccarvey who is Senator Hirono's energy and climate policy asvisor. I will introduce both of these leaders to my Carbon Free Hawai'i project.

Additionally, today the plants in the hydroponics device looked a bit droopy, so I raised the fertilizer levels to hopefuly make them grow stronger.

Today, I moved two plants into the aquaponics system. These two arugula plants had sprouted nicely over the last past days, so I put them in the spots of two plants that failed. Additionally, I worked in the audio room with Harlow and Dan for a little bit of today's class. I might do a podcast with them on a later date.

Weekly Weblog 1/31-3/1

Last week, we had two ISR meeting times since Friday was International day and we didn't have class. On Tuesday, I tried my best to aid Harlow and Dan in their audio project by playing around with the different types of microphones. On Thursday, I spent most of the day researching what site would be best to use for fundraising online. I looked into using GoFundMe and also a site called DonorBox. As of right now, I am leaning towards DonorBox due to the simplicity and how I think it would fit right into the website's layout. As of late, I have been doing a lot of work trying to develop my social media platform and website. The website is linked below which can help you reach both the Facebook page and Instagram page.

Today, I worked on my Carbon Free Hawaii project. Over the weekend one of my board members reached out to tell me that her friend, who lives in Kailapa was having trouble applying for our preliminary round of 15 houses' solar panels. To help this, I sent her the email address for Carbon Free Hawaii and also added it to the website, in case this happened to other people. Additionally, I had been working on finding an online donation platform to use for my website. I decided to use DonorBox because it seemed to be very user-friendly and applicable to my website because of the similar layout to Wix, which I used to make the website.
