This week im trying to create a script of all the things i know for my video that is going to be presented on May 1st. Although we have zoom meetings and such. Its still hard to come up with ideas for a video also because some people like myself aren't the greatest at creating videos but its slowly coming along. I know that I am comparing apple and androids to see which one is safer and why.

Once your face/fingerprint is online, its there forever. Even though it might be hidden in a chip and encrypted. It is still online forever and can be even used in the future one day.

If the product is free then you are the product: Google is much cheaper than apple and theres a reason. It doesnt come with all of the security benfits like apple. All your information can easily be taken because androids are multiple companies working together on one phone and they make a lot more money selling your info unlike apple, they have all your security stored in a chip that not even they can get into. In their license agreement it even says that.

This week I was able to contact Nani Daniel: she works for Apple and is involved with education of their company. She has given me the general company knowledge of Privacy, Facial Recognition, etc. Although she may not be one of the engineers focusing on Facial ID and such. She is a big help to getting me understand more about it. Everyday I have still been learning new things about Facial Recognition and Privacy of Apple and other companies such as google. Dr. Bill talked to us individually about getting towards a product and what we already have. So this is what I already have and its just coming up with a project to show people.

facial recognition case studies: Apple vs. Google
History of Apple: complete integration: operating system-application-hardware
“we are responsible for the entire chain, so we alone get credit for its success or failure”
History of privacy issues and Apple in the news: refusal to break phones for police
Now compare with Google:
Google is a software and cloud computing company whose business model is selling client information (you might bring in the Gsuite as another example).
Open system, open architecture, no control over the platform, selling the data is their business. (can compare with other open-source projects like linux or wikipedia

We have also been in a big predicament this last week involving corona virus. I know this has nothing to do with Facial recognition but this is a huge thing in the real world that has affected all parts of the world. It is interesting to see how our world works. Each country trying to do their own thing to stop the virus. Why are they not able to work together to stop such an epidemic? I understand theres a bunch of conspiracys about the virus

2nd semester weblog 1,2,&3

Since the second semester started I have been looking and thinking of ideas on what my final project will be. We were talked about how it is the end and we need to start having final products. So I tried asking Dr.Bill if theres anyone that knows about the security and we tried to contact someone but we have no yet got an email back. I also thought of the idea of what if we 3-D print a face of someone and try to put it in front of a phone and see if it would unlock the persons phone. Unfortunately we weren't able to get a great scan of a face so it did not work. I personally think that it would work if we could get a very good and accurate scan of a face.

This week I had to sorta add to my milestone rubric that I was given last week. I will be honest and say that I was pretty lazy on it but after Dr.Bill sent me and email about it I added a lot more information on it and it was helpful because I put more ideas and more little projects that I need to do for my one big project which is the Biometric safety of technology.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py0acqg1oKc
This video was created 3 weeks ago and its about how apple is pushing privacy. Which is perfect with my project since one of my ideas is finding the difference between apple and other sorts of companies. And if you go to the apple website or https://www.apple.com/privacy/. If you went on this website about 4 weeks ago and then re look at it now. You will notice a huge difference. The whole page is different and it is telling us about the privacy of each app on the iphone and how it will not send any data anywhere. Whatever privacy that is on your phone will stay on your phone and only you will know it unless you share it.

Weblog 2

This week I was trying to get to know even more about what exactly is going on with biometric data.
Ive been looking for problems with it around the world or how its been being used throughout all technology.
Dr.Bill has been finding and sending me a lot of good websites about all sorts of cybersecurity
Biometric data is still something that people are trying to study which is why its a little tough for me to find a lot of resources about it. So every time I find something Im learning more and more new things.

If I was a CEO of a job I would be making sure that everyone in my company knows the dangers of Biometric data. I would find ways to make biometric data safe. Its an inevitable evolution of technology so if we can not exclude biometrics we should start finding ways to make it safe if their are none already.

Phase 1: Learning about Biometric data, how is it important? why ? what? who?
  • Using HTML to create websites that I can use to help me with creating scary sites that may freak someone who does not know much about technology
  • Looking for people who are willing to be a subject for my project as I pretend to be a hacker and think like one.
  • Asking Dr.Bill if he knows anyone from apple and android that I can ask questions about biometric data

Phase 2: Finding Ideas to get data on Biometric, how am i able to learn more and do hands on projects to learn more about biometric data and actually how safe it is.
  • Set up a meeting with DR.Bill asking for help with getting what I want which is some sort of hack that will take pictures of a person who would open my email.
  • Work on coding and more thinking like a hacker to make it seem realistic. Perfect my skills that I learn and put them to the test.
  • End goal is showing how easy it is to take facial identity from someone and how scary it can be.
  • Get questions and ask workers of apple and android about biometric data and how safe is it for the people using them.

Phase 3: Actually getting data on my own about biometric data. So making and sending many emails for the "anonymous" people to open and then get a picture taken of them.
Using my answers from the workers, putting it together and finding the differences between and apple and android and which is the safer company according to the biometric data and how it may be stored.

Phase 4: Putting my data together and the pictures I get I would send back to the people who opened it and send them a nice awareness paragraph telling them about the reality of Face ID and how it is the future of our generation. I want to spread awareness so that one day everyone will understand Biometric Data and how we can keep it safe because everyone is different and unique and you should embrace it. You should not be getting used by others who dont even know you. Helping influence the reader to know who and what is safe.

Presentation: Went well but need to work on being more confident with my project. Working on public speaking is hard for me but the more speaking we do in front of groups the easier it will get later on through the year. The actual presentation itself was successful because i got to explain to others and especially myself more about what I am really trying to do.
Thinking of long term ideas:
Youtube video explaining biometric data instead of just some website (Boring)
coming up with ideas to make the video interesting for someone my age to want to watch instead of some boring video. I want to make an interesting video but I am not too good at making such videos. I would need help to make sure the youtube video isnt boring.

Proposal Final first draft

Who all uses Face ID and Fingerprints as a password in their phones? I know I do, but do you know where it goes? and do you know if it is safe? Well thats what I will find out. This biometric data never expires and can be shared with people without my knowledge and without my trust. Androids for instance is not just one company but multiple companies working together on their android phones. So when you decide to put your fingerprint on it the companies decide to sell it for more money and thats what I am trying to research. This means i have to search hardware, software, and companies for example facebook and apple. android vs IOS, phones vs computers

How safe is it and where is it stored? Which company is better and who can trust more.

Your fingerprint data is used only by the Secure Enclave to verify that your fingerprint matches the enrolled fingerprint data. It can’t be accessed by the OS on your device or by any applications running on it. It's never stored on Apple servers, it's never backed up to iCloud or anywhere else, and it can't be used to match against other fingerprint databases." (apple)

Proposal 1

Once you put your face ID into your phone or any data base. It will be on there until the end of time. So my Project is about biometric safety(Fingerprints, Facial recognition, voice recognition). I want to figure out where that information is stored and spread it to people who don't know much about safety where our personal info is stored. I have always wondered where it goes and how it is stored. But how about for the future? how is it gonna be used?

Pitch

Biometrics (Finger Prints, Facial recognition) was something used in james bond movie and now it is used on your phones. Biometrics last longer than passwords. They last forever and will never leave once they are online in a data base.

For my proposal i want people to know where their biometrics are stored so that people who are younger or people who donʻt know much about it to learn and be more educated when they decide to put their information on there.

Start off: Once you put any sort of personal date online. It will be there forever and could possibly be used for something not so good.
China protestors are cutting down light post because there are cameras on them that their government uses to use facial recognition to recognize the protesters

Impact

What impact can my project give?
It is able to give information, adults and younger people, about where their private information has been stored and is it safe? I want people to know exactly where the information is going and if it is 100% safe for everyone around the world. I think for this project I want to get it out to at least our school. As smart as a bunch of kids at our school are they may not think about what happens to your facial recognition when you put it into your phone. I think it is important to share this info. I think the fact that only a certain amount of people know where our biometric information is to me is very hard to understand. sure you can say its for safety reasons but how do we know that for sure? we just have to believe the people who know?
How will it help & who?
It will keep people worldwide more aware of what they are doing when they get a new phone and put their fingerprints or facial recognition online.

CAP

Abstract: So for my project I want to find out how google keeps information about people stored and how androids keep theirs stored. Then I want to be able to share it to people around the world so that they know more about their information. I wanna also find the pros and cons of having biometrics. Is it more safe? more convenient? Trying to change how people approach security.
Title: Biometric Safety
Background: For the past 2-3 years we have using biometrics as security for our phones. Such as facial recognition. We have had fingerprints for over 5 years now. People are either too lazy or donʻt know what they are talking about (little knowledge to security or technology).
Purpose: The goal of my project is to spread the safety and the security of your information that you may find private and would rather keep to yourself.
the goal of your project
What will you measure, research or learn?
How will you measure it, what will success look like?:
Tools/resources needed: people, stuff, places to work, local resources, collaboration resources:
What you used/need?
Why is it credible or needed?
How are you going to use it/was it used?
Impact and legacy (HPA, local, global): I want student at HPA and people all around the world to know what they are doing when they are online. I want people to know if they are safe.

Capstone Ideas/ proposals

The feeling of being safe when online:
- the risk of people being able to take your money (credit card numbers, etc.)
- Biometric data (VPN, Facial recognition)
- how can we keep our privacy for the future?
- how do we know if the social media we use is safe? (privacy)

Dark Web:
- Things that we do not know about Gov.
- Secrets that may have been taken out of the web from the Gov. and other people who are keeping secrets.
- If you can remain anonymous and untraceable on the dark web why cant we keep it like that on Google or any other sites?

Virtual Reality:
- why is it so important?
- how can it help our state?
- what can we do to improve it.

Biometric Safety: (Main 1)
Facial recognition, fingerprints on iphone/computer (apple):
what are the strengths to having this? and what are the weaknesses ?
Where does the fingerprints and facial recognition get stored? and is it safe?
People use it because it is less of a hassle. Apple and other companies make it seem like it is safe. in some which is true because people can watch you type your password and many other ways to find it. But once again where is it stored?
