Video

Due to terrible internet connection, the video you are looking for would take 37 hours to upload.

This is basically what I said:
This year we started by emailing 60 schools to ask if they were interested in the Hotchkiss follow up project, around 20 responded, by the last quarter only 2 consistently replied. During the 4th quarter, Cary Academy students wanted to make plans for a website starting next year. This would be a more convenient way to share progress and ideas. Towards the end of the quarter I sent out an email to the junior and sophomore classes to see if there was anyone interested in environmental science and willing to take over the project. Nobody responded which was another challenge I’ve had throughout the year. I was talking with Nana and she said she would take over the project if she could share her research with Bokashi composting. This was a great connection between the components of environmental programs at HPA and would be a good way to share new research with other schools. It is not often a priority of small independent schools to connect with others, so this partial network of students is an important connection to start. The only way for people to become aware of these projects is to connect with others and share what they have learned.

paragraph

This collaboration project is based on the 2013 Hotchkiss Environmental Summit which was used to share resources, goals, and challenges between 60 NAIS representatives. The goal for this project was to get candid student perspectives of the progress made since the Summit. Although only a few schools stayed in contact, I learned about differences in environmental education and the ways in which students view their role at their schools and in their community. Hopefully, this network of schools will grow to become an accessible and constructive way to share research and ideas for future students.

Week 6 Summary

This week was busy with AP's so I replied to Cary Academy about graduation. I have to start figuring out my end of the year project. I have one more AP and I'm not taking any finals, so I should have time for the project. Two weeks left, so I feel like I'm running out of time. Nana and I are trying to morph the project into an accessible format for sharing other projects with a website or blog.

Friday 5/8

Today I replied to Cary Academy students who are also graduating on the 22nd. We're mostly done with sharing documents and making sure we shared contact info for over the summer and next year. I have to reply to Herb with a mailing address for the Frisbee disks he wants to send. It might be better to hand those to the village campus though.

Week 5 Q4 Summary

I spent this week getting materials together to pass on the project. I also contacted Herb Bergamini about Hotckiss and I'll pass on information next week. I have to work on a presentation for the end of the year. Next week Monday and Wednesday I have AP tests, so I will probably spend that first part of the week studying.

Friday 5/1

Around 5 more classes left until graduation. I got a reply from Herb Bergamini, and next week I'll send over the contact info and the simplified notes/ essential questions. I also have to start working on a presentation for the end of the year.

Wednesday 4/29

I sent an email to Herb Bergamini from North Wests School about Hotchkiss 2.0. There are some juniors at HPA willing to use the project as a way to share their research, but I haven't found anyone willing to fully commit to taking on the project. In the past few weeks, Cary Academy students and I have been brainstorming ideas for a website that would start next year. With a website, sharing research would be effective and there wouldn't be a need for someone to compile ideas through email (which is what I've been trying to do)

Tuesday 4/28

I emailed Cary Academy and introduced Nana and sent over the contact info and summit notes. I also asked Nana to write a short paragraph about her research so I can introduce her to the other schools. I'm also thinking of making a survey to send to the schools to see if that format works at getting responses.

Week 4 Q4 Summary

I emailed Cary Academy this week about switching over the contact info. I also sent an email to the junior and sophomore classes to see if anyone was interested in working on the project. Nana wanted to use the project as a platform for sharing her research, which is the intended use for forming connections this year. I'll ask her to write a short summary of her project for next week and introduce her to Cary Academy.

No one from the junior or sophomores replied to my email, but Nana came to talk to me about working on the project. I spent today figuring out what I can do before school ends and any contributions I can make for the website project.

Wednesday 4/22

Today I talked to Nana Ueno, and she's thinking of using Hotchkiss to share her research. I'll introduce Nana to Cary Academy for now and then pass over other contact information.

I sent an email to juniors and sophomores with the APES description and a synopsis of my independent project. I also replied to Ellie with ideas for next year's project.

Week 3 Q4 Summary

I spent the week brainstorming ideas for getting people interested in working on these projects. Since there are only a few weeks of school left, I don't have a lot of time to find students to take on the project. Ellie and I are working on ideas for a format that would allow more schools to discuss sustainability. Pictures, videos, articles, and questions would be the main form of communicating and sharing ideas. I'm still thinking of a survey to send to the schools that were interested in the beginning of the project as a concise follow up.

Friday 4/17

Today I started working on an email to send to rising juniors and seniors to see if they're interested in taking APES next year and if they have an interest in working with the Challenge 20/20 team from Cary Academy. I also replied to Ellie with ideas for next year's project.

Wednesday 4/15

Ellie is still the only student responding. We're working on getting a concept project started for next year in the last weeks. I'll make sure to ask her about working over summer on coming up with ideas. I still have to find people willing to take over the project next year.

Tuesday 4/14

For senior service day we took a trip to the Village Campus to visit teachers. I found this:

These are in most of the classrooms and would be something to share with other schools for this project.

Week 2 Q4 Summary

I finally got into a pattern with replying to emails from Cary Academy (but its already 4th quarter). The website idea is the most likely direction for creating an accessible platform for sharing information. I also think that the challenge driven collaboration would be a better format than what we tried this year with emailing back and forth. This project needs to have an element of accountability so that there is progress reflecting students' interests.

Friday 4./10

I spent most of today's class looking into my college options. I still have to find people willing to work on this project next year. Most people are drawn to the visual projects, so the problem is still getting people interested.
